Marvel Legends preview

I love these action figures. While I only have 10 or so, if I had more money to blow and wasn't married, it'd be a safe bet I'd have them all. The detail is great and so is the articulation for posing them in classic stances. My favorite is my Colossus figure from a few series ago.
Further on down the page I linked to is the Icons line that looks too cool. I really like the Captain America figure and of course the current Wolverine look. The characters they choose to make into figures are a good mix of more well-known ones and also second-tier or characters you haven't seen for years. I've had luck finding a lot of them on online or eBay if you can't find them in stores.

V for Vendetta review...

I've linked to one of the more well-thought out reviews for V for Vendetta. I'm really looking foward to seeing this movie. I haven't read the TPB yet but there's still a month to go before it premieres.
I'm afraid some will make it out to be an attack on the current administration but if we look back to when the books were published, one can plainly see it's not. If some think that, then maybe there's some truth to it but that's not the purpose of this blog.
I'm going into this just wanting to see a good movie that will make me think and one that's not just full of explosions and no story. Being able to see all of these comics-inspired movies up on the big screen is a great thing and shows that comics can be taken seriously and aren't just for the kids anymore.

'Shock' at new Bond plot

I've always been a Bond movie fan but I've never read any of the books. The new movie is based Ian's first book. I'm excited about this one and I like the new choice for Bond. I believe that this movie will do for the Bond franchise what Batman Begins did for the Batman franchise. As far as similarities between a certain plot point and the recent happenings in London referenced in the above article are purely coincidental in my opinion. The movie premieres in November, 9 months from now. So I hope this one is heavy on story and character and lighter on the outlandish gadgets. I think they've done everything they can with the gadgetry though I'm ok with a cool car.

Uncle Owen is dead

He's finally joining Aunt Beru up in the sky in that galaxy a long time ago from far, far away.
Something to note in the story linked is that he was blacklisted in the 50s during the communist scare. But we all know he wasn't ever turned by the dark side of the Force. That was his "stepbrother's" department.

A la carte cable TV

I'd have to say I'm pretty against a la carte cable service. A la carte is where you pick and choose only the channels you want to watch and are willing to pay for and that's all you get. Some might think that this is a great idea but I feel that if people have the choice in this case, there will be fewer choices as far as channels go. It's a safe bet that a vast majority of people would choose ESPN as one of their channels. But how many of them would want to pay for ESPN 2 or ESPNews. The additional channels that the major players offer might not be able to survive if an a la carte option is chosen. Cable and satellite providers are better able to negotiate with the networks on pricing. Would those people that chose ESPN be willing to pay for a bigger increase in cost that ESPN imposes almost every year? ESPN is one the most expensive channels carried on almost every cable system. This doesn't include the HBOs or Showtimes as you pay extra for those anyway. While a la carte sounds like a good idea, I think in the long run, it will hurt cable.

The Office

This is one of my favorite shows on TV and 1 of the few I never miss. It's much funnier than a lot of what's on network TV right now. I know there are those that hate it because they're faithful to the British version but who cares. Take this for what it is on its own merits and just enjoy it. The characters are great. It's hard not to feel bad for Jim, Pam and even Ryan. As painful as it seems to be, I would work in an office like that. Being witness to someone like Dwight would be priceless.
Pick up season 1 on DVD and then jump into season 2 once the Olympics are over. You'll be glad you did.

Free anti-virus software

Are you a Norton or McAfee user and your subscription is about up or maybe it expired a few months ago? I'm guessing you probably don't want to fork over $40 or more to renew for another year.
That's where AVG comes into the picture. Grisoft, the software company, has a free version of the program that you can download at the link above.
AVG does a good job of protecting you against viruses. As long as you're using it on your home computer and not a business, there's really no reason not to download it.
My only suggestion is that once you have it installed, turn off the e-mail scanner function because hopefully your ISP has its own virus detection for your POP mail.

Spyware...

If your PC is running slow or you get popups even when you're not browsing the Internet or on sites that are gracious enough not to have them, then you probably have some spyware and adware that needs to be removed.
There are a variety of programs out there to help get rid of that. Some are pretty good while others are just wanting to get a quick $30 from you and don't really help you out too much.
On the page linked above, there are 2 that work very well and they're also free. Spybot and Ad-Aware are good programs to help clean up your computer. I would also suggest Microsoft AntiSpyware. All 3 of these programs working together will help get your computer back to working order. Keep them up to date also and run them on a regular basis or you might end up back where you started.
